Engine Trouble
« on: November 14, 2009, 07:42:24 PM »
Hey Guys

I just got a 1995 Land Rover from a nieghbor. It runs great a little shaky when first started but otherwise generally good. Now however whenever I break hard and/or turn sharply the engine stalls out and doesn't turn back on. It happens if I have a full tank of gas or empty tank.
Any help you guys could give would be appreciated
Thanks
Thomas

What flavor of Land Rover? It sounds like it's running normally for a Discovery. :banghead:

When it stalls and wont restart how do you get it to restart? When it wont restart will it crank or no crank?? If it cranks do you have spark? at the plug? at the coil?

It will restart when normally after I put it into park. Everything else about the start is ok. It runs well to its just when it stalls out I have to coast it to the side of the road and restart it.

Yea its a discovery. It does restart in nuetral I just found out but I have been told that that is bad for the transmission when you shift back into drive and you are already moving. I will check on the coasting tommorrow.
Thanks a lot

Nah It doesnt hurt the tranny as long as you dont rev the piss out of the motor then slap id back into drive. Then it shock loads the planetarys and can cause damage.

It continued and didn't stall out when I put it in nuetral and coasted. It only stops when I stop hard. Route 1 is right by my house and when I turn off of that to my road from 50 to 20 it stalls out. It does this quietly and without shaking or anything. Sometimes I don't even realize it stalls till I hit the gas.

while its running in the driveway shake the wires going into the coil. do one wire at a time and see if it dies or sputters. If it does then you know where the problem is.
