my truck keeps dieing.. bat. issues i break alt belts very few days i think im pulling it to tight in the cold and it snaps i have to crank it tight because if i use anything electric like my headlights and use the brakes at the same time a belt screams and my tac drops out and i smell burning rubber (from alt belt) but i observed the belt that turns the alt is from the power steering belt and is VERY lose how do i change the 3 (i think) belts i cant find a tensioner on the power steering

rover is in a parking lot down the road till its fixed please help!

I would take the belt off and try and turn the pulley's that are attached t0 that belt and make sure you don't have a bearing out in one of them. I am asuming the you have enough anti-freeze in the car??? If not the water pump might be frozen up and causing the belt to burn.
I am not very familiar with the belt config of this truck but, that might give you a place to start.

That lower belt needs to be tight.that belt drives the belt for the alt. if that belt is loose no matter how tight the alt belt it will slip. also check the bearings when u have the belts off. just spin the alt and the powersteering pump by hand they should spinn easy.

heres a pic of the bolt locations from all data.

  • Check, by thumb pressure, the belt tension between the crankshaft and the pump pulley. There should be a free movement of between 4-6mm (0.19-0.25 in) .
  • Loosen the two nuts at the side of the pump to allow the pump to be pivoted.
  • Loosen the bolt securing the pump lower bracket to the slotted adjustment link.
  • Pivot the pump (in the direction of the bold arrow) as necessary and adjust until the correct belt tension is obtained. CAUTION : Do not use the pump casing as a point of leverage when tensioning the power steering drive belt. Damage to the pump casing may be caused leading to fluid leakage.
  • Maintaining the tension, tighten the pump adjusting bolt and the top pivot nuts. NOTE : Check the alternator drive belt tension after adjusting the power steering pump belt.
  • Reconnect the battery negative lead and close the hood. NOTE : Check adjustment after running engine at fast idle speed for 3 to 5 minutes if a new belt has been fitted.
