Tires thoughts and comments
« on: April 28, 2008, 02:41:37 PM »
Well I was searching around for good prices on tires since I did end up with a small slice in my rear tire.  Damn ran had to go and wash the mud away so I would notice lol.  Nothing serious at all but got me looking today.

so I found this  http://stonetire.com/store/c/235_85_rx16/

On this page is the tread patterns they list for 235/85/16 these are retreads though and that makes me a bit leary of them.  The prices though are awesome.  The ones I like are the OTD and they come in at $63.00 a piece.  The shipping quote for all 4 was 80 bucks to my door.  So $332 to my door.  $30 bucks mounting and balancing at Towne Fair Tire and I'm on the new rubber for $362.

Any thoughts on the whole retread thing anyone else found some better deals on a 265/75 or 235/85 new retread or used lol?

Hey Ski,
If it is not apparent yet, I tend to be a very cheap bastard. I have only bought new tires once in my life and the rest have been from used tire stores. (I love when you have to make them balance the tire because they think it is a waste of time:))
In all my used tire buying experience the only tires that have ever failed on me where the "Retreads"

On the last one I ever bought, the tire looked like brand new and then blew out not 20 miles on the road.
I was just on Craigslist this morning looking for 265/75/16 (That Chris had mentioned he liked) and found 4 that where take off from a F350. They have 100 miles on them, Michelin I believe and he wanted 400 or best offer.
My 2 cents is if you are not going to buy "name brand new" find someone who had pulled them off there truck for bigger tires, has no mileage on them and can prove what they are advertising, is the way to go.

Tex
Army before you post it back.....changing tires is easier when the truck is lifted into the tree like an ornament!

I found some BFG AT 33's on craigslist for $200 unfortunately if I went that route I would probably snap my axles or have to saws all the body up....  :(

yes he is and I'm pretty handy with one myself but I would prefer to keep the body intact.

Ben why are you up aren't you on spring break?  I never used to get up before the crack of noon when I was off from school.

That's why the hybrid is getting front and rear winches. I can change tires, and on those balmy summer days, I can drop the windshield, hook up to two palm trees, and make the world's coolest hammock!
