Cookingwithfat remember him?
« on: April 30, 2008, 01:23:18 PM »
He was a part of SNHLR when we were just a yahoo group.  He had issues back then with his 92 RRC.  They have not been solved and he is giving up on his Rover.  We'll I've decided to do what I can to help him fix the rig so that his original honeymoon can still happen with the Rover at Glacier National Park.

I'm looking for the smarts of our members to help figure out the problem so I can have a shot at fixing the beast.  I have my thoughts on what might be wrong but as always I know their are people much smarter than I at Rovers.

So let's put our heads together and figure this one out.  Oh and if anyone wants to lend a hand let me know and we can ride up together.

Here's the link on Land Rovers Only.

Thanks Army....and Great Divide for putting your best foot forward in this matter. I am proud that SNHLR can show the Land Rover community just what kind of members we have.   Good job and again...very proud.

could it be something as simple as bad gas??? he sais it is running lean, if it were running lean raw gas would not be coming out of the exhaust, i believe if raw gas is coming out it is running to rich. also if compression is down, it might be the rings, but when rich it runs like a big bag of ass. Since it is running hot though this leans towards why they say it is lean. why does thsi rig have a aftermarket cam though? i would think this might be the timing/biggest problem.

I would doubt that the cam is a problem. I have used crower cams in Rovers before and no problems. They either work or dont work....same goes for the timing...these things will not cause intermitent issues.

From what I've read I'd be looking at the cats with a thermometer for a start. All the symptoms have described a failed cat, and it seems as if this hasn't been ruled out yet.

yea that's been one thing that has been hanging with me as the problem since the start of this.

As far as the cam in ran fine for 5 months with it I think that is not the issue.

John (apbetpty from LRO) and I are meeting there at 10 am on saturday.  Anyone that would like to ride along let me know I'm leaving about 9am on sat to head over.

I'm hopeful but not sure the two of us will be able to solve this trucks issues.
