I've decided to sell my D1 - $2000

At this price, the winch is not included, but the winch plate and "custom" mount are.

Plenty of good and bad - and I'll try to be as up front as I can about it.

Background:

I purchased it in '99, and have put a lot of miles on it since - it's at 161k.  The truck runs "well", but has many of the D1 issues that some know about.  All in all it's been a good wheeling vehicle - and I would say it would continue to do so for someone looking to get into a rover for cheap money to wheel for a while, then move on to something else, or do some work on this one.

Upfront info:  The motor is making a small rap or tap from time to time - might be a bearing, I am not sure.  An experienced motor person could probably tell right off the bat.  I have been running it this way for a little while, without any issues, but I'm not certain.

Before I get into the list of issues - here's some recent pics of it on Florida Road.

I will update with better pics that detail the entire rig so you know what it really looks like - highlighting all areas of the rig.

Local folks who are interested are more than welcome to stop by and take it for a test drive.

It's running 265/75-16 Truxus MT's that have very good tread on them.  For lift it has heavier springs in the front, stock springs in the rear, and a set all around of 1" spacers.  I have the heavier springs for the rear as well.  The rest is pretty much a stock drivetrain.

I have to attend to some work - so I'll post more info later !

O' you don't wanna know ! :D

I just purchased a newer (for me) tow rig today - and I need to downsize my collection.  Between my wife and I we have 6 vehicles (the purchase today makes 7)

I actually have a '78 CJ-7 I'm trying to get pieced back together for the summer - I bought it and the Disco as the same time in '99.  The jeep is more extreme a trail rig vs. the rover being a good general trail truck.  I plan to focus on the more technical trails with the CJ, but it's being built to also run down the road & hit the smoother trails also.

I could of swapped HP D60's and all that into the D1 - but in all honestly, I've found the CJ is much simpler (and more cost effective) platform to build up from.

GD1 - yep - they are great trucks !  16 - well, you outnumbered me

I really do like rovers - the long term plan is to piece together a Series 88 or 109 - but I'd do some kind of hybrid drivetrain and a stout frame that is something other than stock Series stuff.  So many projects, just never enough time.

Here we go (this could be long) I want to be as honest and up front about this truck as I can.  If I missed something,  you can ask me any questions on it.

It runs and drives well - I've owned this disco since '99 - and it's been good to me.

IMHO - this would be a great truck for someone who wants to get into a rover, wheel it and have some fun for low initial $, but doesn't mind wrenching on it for if you've done the research, you will know the list of issues they have, and this has a few.

The winch and CB are not included.

162k miles
motor runs well, doesn't burn oil, but weaps around the valve covers
transmission and tc work very well - diff lock operation is smooth
open on both diffs, stock shafts (blah)

Passed NH inspection in March '08

1" puck lift all around plus heavier springs in the front (don't recall make) stock in rear, but I have the heavier springs for the rear that haven't been installed.

Winch and CB not included, but the custom winch brackets and mount plate are.   Shown with Ramsey 8k# winch, so similar will fit.

Faded DII flares included for those wanting to do some trimming.

front end vibe ~60 mph - I'm certain the wheels need balanced.  I had them balanced about a year ago, and the shop said one was slightly bend - there were able to balance it though.

The pics make it look nicer than what it is (pics after wash)  - it has the standard scratches on the exterior from offroading, and a good size dent in the drivers side front fender.

dings & dents all around (see pics)

Tires are 265/75-16 Truxus MT's with good tread - but I did notice a sidewall cut (not deep) shown in an attached pic.

Need front control arm bushings installed - purchased the set, but not installed yet.

Rust in locations shown (see pics) and one body mount is going to need repair - the others look OK.   If the potential buyer is not handy with a welder, we can talk, might be able to work something out with me patching those trouble areas up.  (disregard the booger welds on the "narrowed" stock front bumper end caps - it was late, I was tired, and I was using flux core 'cause I was too lazy to swap the MIG wire and hook up the CO2.)

Simple surface rust on other areas of the undercarriage, but nothing structural at all, floorboard are in good shape as well.

Dent in gas tank (see pic) but no issues with operation.

Recent serp belt and fan clutch (within the last 6 months)

Interior is OK shape - leather cracked, no rips - heated seats work well.

sunroofs work, but can stick open, all windows except rear passenger side work (this one popped off the track, and it's wedged in place - can be fixed with some elbow grease, just didn't get around to it yet)

Door locks are f*cked.  I'm sure they can be fixed, but I didn't bother to spend the time, as no crooks have shown interest in the truck.  You can get it locked using a combination of the fob and key in the door lock, but it's a PITA.

Front passengers side caliper has recently started to stick.  I might do something about this before I sell the truck, depends how motivated I get (to many projects)

As I recall more info - I'll post up.

Yep !  I think there are many years left in the rig - since I just bought the F-350, between my wife and I we currently have 7 vehicles, which is just too many.

And I forgot to mention - it's comes with some fame for free.  A friend e-mailed me earlier today and told me in the May '08 issue of Land Rover Monthly (from the UK) there is a picture of my Disco on Page 160.

I'd trade you for a set of these !

http://www.gulfcoastrovers.com/pages/products.asp?uid=3

Actually - based on the amount of interest my Disco has generated (which is next to nothing) - I will probably end up keeping it for a while (which means more wheeling  :D this summer with it)

I plan to fix the rust issues in the very near future - might help a little at attracting a buyer, or it might not.

I appreciate the offer though.
