Did you check the connection to the amplifier module? Wiggle that... It's on the side of the distributor.

That was causing the same type of issues on mine. It's hard to track down.

oh nevermind... Misread I guess. sorry

Mine turned over just no spark... It would cause an intermittent starting issue. I don't know what would cause the starter not to turn. Solenoid? Ignition switch?

One starter out.....

I hate that top bolt but I did figure out where that metal piece went it's the heat shield on the bottom of the manifold...

will do the spare starter is out and the one in my rigg is half out lol the top bolt is froze solid lol....  Sprayed liberally with pb blaster and now I'm heading across the way to a dunkin for a coffee.

Follow up post:

starter's changed out everything seems to be working good now.  Hopefully my neighbor will get home soon or I'm going to rupture a nut pulling that front axle out of the back of the RRC.  We were supposed to do it last night but I was screwing with a starter instead....
