Got E-Mail From Netherlands...Looking for help !!!
« on: July 23, 2008, 02:43:19 PM »
Hello all. I received this e-mail from a proud series3 owner....in the Netherlands.   He comes to us looking for help.   Here is his entire e-mail.   Can anyone help out???   Thanks.    tom

Dear Tom,

I watched a youtube video with a series II having fun the woods, rocks and
snow and ended up at your website. As of last sunday I'm the proud owner
of a seriesIII 88" 1977 and I'm beginning my first restoration ever! I've
set up a weblog to document each step I take and I can really use all the
tips/advice and help I can get!!

I'm hoping you would be so kind to check it out, perhaps link it from your
site.

The URL is: http://lrseries3.blogspot.com

A little bit about myself:
I live near Rotterdam, the Netherlands, 28yrs old, work in the
Internet/Consultancy field, maried, no kids (yet). Am going to do the
restoration/build on my driveway (see pics in the firstpost of the blog).

About the car:
It's been imported out of britain 3 years ago, sat still at a blokes house
for that same period, the chassis is rock solid but the petrol engine died
(reason I believe it was sold to the netherlands in the first place). This
dutch guy put a diesel engine in but never propperly hooked it up.

I've downloaded several manuals about the series from the internet which
prove to be quite helpfull. The only problem is I don't know where all the
loose parts of this diesel engine should be placed/connected (oil cooler,
gaspedellinkage, etc etc). Perhaps you have some photos of engine
compartments that match my series?

Thank you again for any help,

Kind regards,
Ronald Helmstrijd

The Series II Owners Club maybe a good contact or even Dutch Land Rover Register who have a forum. ;)

If it's got an oil cooler then the chances are that it's a military spec engine that's been put in, if it's come from the UK. It may be from a later vehicle or (most likely) a Lightweight (1/2 Ton). If it's ex MoD then the block will normally be painted a light green color and will have some parts that won't be required for fitment into a civilian Landy.
