Cooprer Discovery SST or ST-C 315/75R16
« on: July 28, 2008, 08:59:04 AM »
I fell in love with these tires this weekend. I was drug against my will down to some beach house at the cape where Tiff has a business friend and while I was there trying to get away from the crowd I took a little walk by myself.
I noticed this really cool Jeep...to many things to list...although I did make a list on my BB of all the things I loved about it.
The tires on this 4 door Jeep were Cooper Discovery SST 315/75/16. They looked perfect. After I got home I looked them up on the internet and the only other tire that caught my eye in that line was the same tires size and make ST-C.

This one is supposed to have the make up to resist wear from cuts and chips from off roads rocks.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with either of these tires.

Tex

I had Cooper STs in 235/85-16 on the Goat for a while and was VERY impressed by how good they did offroad.

My best friend and wheeling partner runs Cooper STT's in a 35x12.50x15 on his jeep CJ7, powered by a Corvette 327. He loves them, and I am very impressed with them. But don't even think about 315's on a rover. You'll break every axle shaft, and grenade your diffs. Time for GBR everything if you want to go that big. And the GBR HD stuff at that.

GBR or Yota conversion.

For me when I get to the point of grenading diffs and axles I'm swapping in 9" fords and a 351w.  No more issues ever and cheap parts :D

Yota conversions are nice. Lots of guys in FLRC are running them. But I'd rather stay Rover. I'm a purist. LOL, sarcasm, lol!

If you're running 35's you're running the GBR / Ashcroft bits at the limit of what they will handle. Not that I don't reccomend GBR parts as I spend many many thousands of $$ there yearly and Bill runs a good service but if you're turning 35's in anger the Toy conversion (and HD at that) is the most effective weapon for the $$.

Oh, and the Cooper tyres are a great all around choice. Good value.

LOL! Too bad Bill doesn't talk to me anymore since his daughter called off the wedding. Luckily the DII is only running 32" M/T's. Only got the GBR diff, with TT, and GBR propshafts on that one. The 35"'s are for the Hybrid SIIa.

Yeah, baby. Looking at putting the axles from the 81' SIII 109 under the hybrid. Salisbury rear (Dana 60 clone) with Front and Rear 24 spline axles. The new owner does not want the driveline. Whoopee!

I love these tires....many of you know how cheap I was to not buy ANY tires! (I believe there is some video of me siding repeatedly down a hill :)) I am so cheap it took me 7 months buying 2 tires at a time. These tireS ARE Mastercraft/Courser 265/75/16. Man do I love these!

The lesson that my thick head learned was new tires can save your life!!! I believe Daniel was on the phone with me when I was almost killed on tread bare front tires! :)
