Stereo upgrade in process
« on: September 25, 2008, 01:42:33 PM »
Hey Ben,
The initial build is done on the 10" Bazooka :) I also replaced the rear sub (That was blown all to hell, thanks to my sweet daughter(s)) and have replaced them with 2-200 watt AMPS. One is driving the Bazooka and the other is driving the rear speakers.

I also finally installed the front pillar tweeters that I salvaged out of 99 LR and got them hooked up.

The tube is mounted in the right rear window (top) where I talked about putting it. The build looks pretty good but, I have some reworks that I want to do to it before I paint it.

I cannot believe how great it sounds. I was going to replace the front AMP under the passenger seat but, it sound so good I think I will leave it as is. The crossovers for the tweeters really made a big impact on the sound from the front speakers, with just mids and bass flowing through them now.

The only sad thing that I am running into is that I am not happy with the head unit for a number of reasons and think I am going to replace it. I really love the remote buttons on the dash but, when it comes right down to it I think all the newer innovations ie..Satellite, DVD capabilities, and so forth make it worth the upgrade. (Plus more slots for future built in electric switches:))

And last but not least, I have been dying to utilize my Blackberry 8830's ability to be used as a music player.

I bought the following for this portion of the project:

You were joking about the hat holder, right???

System sounds like a winner. In big air spaces like suv's, it's amazing how important good crossovers can be. Nice job.

Uh, no I was not joking about the hat holder :)

And I finally got the sub in painted and ready. I still have some clean up to do on the wiring and I am rebuilding the 2 AMPS on the back door this weekend but, the majority of it is done. I will post the AMP pics after I have completed it. It sounds great.

I can't find the post where you told me I would kill my AMP's ( In the event of a water catastrophe) that are mounted to the rear door BUT...... uh...big surprise ...you where right.... so I will be moving my AMP's from the back door to wait you'll love this...mounted center of the rear right window below the Bazooza tube!!! :)
I bought this car for Tiff for Valentines Day last year...A Cadillac STS and the "kid" that installed that stereo did such a great job that it inspired me not to use my normal house speaker wire and really pretty up the installation.
The job was so amazingly perfect that it embarrassed me! Imagine that :)

I can't wait for Daniel to critic my new work!

Anthony, I'm sure you're very proud of your work. This is coming from someone who grew up in Philly. That bazooka mounted in plain view is a HUGE billboard for the folks who make thier living removing said items, without your permission. Just throwing that out there.

I think that is a great point however....man would they be bummed out when they opened the unlocked door, cut the straps holding the tube in place and then later took it to there local pawn shop to sell it and then realized that the speaker is actually a replacment and the original built in amp is broken and the acual power is coming from an AMP on the back door with drilled out holes in order to accommodate the cheap ass speaker wires that run to them, that was purchased 4 years ago at a cost of 50 bucks (The AMP) I think.

I do appreciate the warning but the reality is I'm a cheap bastard...(Just ask Daniel, he's seen the amp and wiring we used to power the rear lights in sub zero temps :))

I won't even go into the how we in Texas just hope for someone stupid enough to rob an armed Texan:) BECAUSE I am in MA I am not armed...counting days till I move back to the motherland...

That's cool. Just didn't want to see someone help themselves. As cheap as you say though, they'd still take it for free. Ask me how I found this out.........

Totally good point about theft..it's just I have had it in the truck for about a year now and it's regularly parked in downtown Boston and have not had any issues.

Probably just dumb luck but, I think most people would never expect it to be where it's at and probably miss it. The head unit is the factory original stereo so I bet they look in at that old relic and just pass it by...Funny it will probably get stolen tomorrow :)

It wasn't in a post; LOL. I warned you about sinking your amps when we were using their "+" out to run power wire to your brake lights at my house - in the dark.
Haven't you figured it out yet, Tex? I'm always right - unless it comes to women - then I'm always wrong. LMAO!!!

You're not cheap-you just use "southern" initiative...

What a baby you where....like 0 degrees and complaining about helping your brilliant engineer friend hook his lights up to his AMP :)
