1997 Land Rover Discovery S1
« on: October 06, 2008, 04:57:08 PM »
Hello. I'm selling the Discovery that I recently purchased. It's very clean. Drives very well. A comfortable ride for sure. Here is my issue.  Got the rear lights working. BUT.... the vehicle did not pass inspection.

Safety Issues as listed by Kensington AutoWorks Inc.
1)Track Rod
2)Muffler w/pipe
3)Tie Rod End
4)Drivers Door Handle

Emissions/ Diagnostic Code Issues
1)P1193 No discription Available
2)P0158 O2 Sensor Bank2 Sensor2
3)P1138 No Discription Available
4)P0307 Cylinder 7 Misfire Detected

Recommended by Kensington AutoWorks Inc.
1) CrankShaft Seal
2) Valve Cover Gasket

This is about $900.00 worth of work for the do-it-yourselfer or to bring to a shop. I just don't have the patience for this vehicle as I am disapponted at the fact the dealer who sold it to me did'nt tell me this stuff. It is a very nice vehicle and would like to get my $2400.00 back.  Epsom Green. Has 182,000 miles on it.  2 sunroofs, cruise control, heated seats, Tan leather interior, and more.Would make an awesome trail vehicle!  I told you everything as I wish the dealer had told me!   Tom

One month and already back to Disco discrimination...Funny thing is most of what you have listed I think I have wrong with mine or I have had to fix....Old Texas  saying "Fix it or drive it till she drops" :)...or in your case sell it!

P1193 is Manufacturer control fuel air metering. Could have a bad, or going bad, MAF sensor. P1138 is the exact same code description. Only one misfire detection is most likely a bad plug or plug wire, since it's only 1 out of 8. Exhaust is cheap if you do a midas style shop. And valve cover gaskets are only about an hour job. If you buy a MAF from Will Tillery or Paul Grant; you can install it in less than 10 minutes.

Just keep it. It will be hard to find another one in such nice shape, for that good of a price.

Good luck, sir.

Nice Disco - that's what mine used to look like :D

As mentioned - you can probably get it inspectable with a little work & a fistfull of dollars.

I fully understand your comments though.

Good Luck with the sale.
