MaBell gets VERY icy from here to next spring.
Not sure if you all know the new happenings at MaBell either.
The town has taken possession of the first 2/3 of the trail.
They are currently allowing our use with several stipulations: (I won't list all of them, as they don't all pertain to small group rides)
A) The mud hole at the beginning of the trail is OFF LIMITS. The town is researching whether its a vernal pool.
B) You MUST stay on the main telephone line cut. The original twisty bypass road is OK, BUT the ones that veer off from that are off onto private land and are illegal.
C) You must stop and turn around at the "peak", or the top of Committed, as some may know it. Heading down into the valley, past Committed and Zuki Hill are on private land and although the landowner didn't have issues for the last 20 years, with the massive increase in use there in the last 5 years and the town contacting him, the stipulation is that we will not venture onto his land w/o written permission. That is in the works.
D) The town IS monitoring the place regularly/weekly. If they see continued use of the illegal bypasses and/or the mudhole, they have said they will shut the place down for good.
Now, I know, "How can the JQ Public be notified of where is OK and where is not?" SIGNS of course. Yeah, well the town will not allow us to post signs until we present an entire plan of action for the place.
Yes, that is in the works as we speak as well.
So, when running there, please follow those guidleines and we'll all keep a great trail.
Thanx!
Thanks to Dave Brill for the latest info.
