so I know that you can put a toy third member in the rover housing if you change the bolt holes on the housing.  then you need to get the rovertracks axles and machining done, but can you put a toy v6 third up front too? -Matt I know you have this setup, thanks in advance.

Yes; the conversion is available for both the front and rear axles. In fact you need to do the pair to keep your R&P ratios identical because of the full time AWD of the Rover.

yeah I wasn't sure if I had to use a fj80 diff up front, but the rover diffs are the same so there souldn't be a difference.  I will do the rovertracks conversion some day, or just change to toy casings in general.  thanks

Toyota FJ60 casings are really close in all of the dimensions you need for a Series truck or D1/RRC/D90.

I run an FJ 80 high pinion in the front. I beleive that the V6 will also work fine. That's what I will put in the back if I ever get around to it.

I still have the Rover diff in the back but only as it has the same 4:10 ratio as the Toy.

V6 third will work, and allows you to run the Toyota E-locker too,...if you wanted to....Or just use 8lbs of 7018...

Ok new plan, I will be cutting the rangie up to put the defender/series nose and cab on.  The rear will be flat bedded.  I need to know what year and model toy axle would be correct to put under the front of the truck.  I want to do the toy front casing so I get the stronger knuckle to run Hi steer on.  is the fj80 the best choice? I am on a budget.  I will be building new arms for the front and running rancho 12" coils.  I want to run toy because I like the removable pumkin.

The 80 would be a good choice as it is close to the same width. You might as well use the 80 rear axle also so you have the same wheels + the monster beefy rear 80 diff (its huge) and you'll have a matching gear ratio.
Plus the 80's are coil. Not sure about the Hi steer set up for those. personally I much prefer the Rover knuckle set up and am willing to live with the tie rod set up. Don't have any issues with it the way I'm set up.

the only problem is that I bet the axles are expensive.  good point about the wheels too.  I will start trying to hunt some down.  Anyone know where a good place is to find fj80 axles

I don't mind having to do a lot of clean up work on them, all new bracing and brakets would go on  I am on a tight budget though, damn tuition.  Matt could you pm me with the expected price, the buy would likely have to wait for me to finish my customers trucks, so about a month or so.  thanks.

I bought a set of FJ60 axles from a junkyard, complete end to end, with alloys, for 500.00 for the pair. FJ80's should cost you around 800.00 for both, complete with diffs. Junkyards don't like breaking them for pieces, so you'll get them from hub to hub.

what is the strength comparison for the fj60's to the 80's.  Also I am thinking of just building a mini truck axle with longfields.  some one said this might be cheaper

FJ 60 axles have a monster 9 1/2 inch diff, they're a tank. But they are for leaf springs. The FJ 80 axles are basically the same diff, with uprated axle shafts, and are set up for coil springs. A minitruck axle is a joke, and should never be set up for anything over a 33". Their are a lot of people running 35" tires on mini truck axles, but a yota weighs half of what a Rover weighs.
