The heater in any series rover down right sucks...unless upgraded. My dad has the summit heaters in both of his trucks but we still cant get them to put out heat. After talking with another rover guy down here, he suggested putting a heater assembly from a toyota into the rover, so I did exactly that.
I got a hold of a local junkyard and picked up the blower from a 89' toyota for $30. This was significantly larger in size that the smiths blower.
I ended up cutting up the smiths shrowd to clear the toyota blower and glueing it back together around the toyota blower.
For the heater core itself, a little lurking around guns and rovers influenced the installation for the GDU 339024 core. This core, wrapped in truck cap tape (a foam seal, served as a padding) slid right in place of the orginal series III core in the original box.
Once everything was bolted and screwed back into place I plumbed it with 5/8" heater hose, ditching the series rover metal pipes in attempt to eliminate "flow restrictions"
I still have to wire up the blower, I need to switch the neg with the pos so it will blow in the right direction.
I should have it wired up and tested by the end of this week along with pics of the installation. For now here is the pic of the toyota blower on the right vs. the smiths on the left. And here is the core i am using
