Dismantling 1997 Discovery I
« on: January 31, 2009, 09:45:04 AM »
Hey Gang;

Just brought my 97' DI home to start bringing it down to the chassis tio build my TomCat. Stage 1 is to strip everything, and maybe cut the bodyshell down to make it look like a buggy, until I get the TomCat subframe and cage over from the UK.

Most of the truck had been parted out before I bought it, as I only needed a rolling chassis. But some trim bits are there along with all glass, front sunroof, both door mirrors, rear bumper, and a lot of tidbits.

If anyone needs anything let me know, as I'll get rid of it extremely cheap, as you guys would have to pay shipping charges. Not trying to make anything off of this, as most is in excess to my needs. Just don't want to throw out good rover parts and pieces.

It's Dark Metallic Green with a Beige Interior.

Will post photos soon as I get back home and have it organized.

Cheers.

I believe it's identical to yours. It's darker than Tex's, and deep metallic. I'll pull the hinge tonight. Just the top, or do you want both?

I started cutting up the body on my 96 parts truck and I was soooo tempted to make it an on/off road buggy,  if it were a 95 and not subject to emmissions here in MA I would have done it.  Good luck on the build. Pics are always good!

A dear??? Do you just need the hook? Yhe plastic piece by the rearview mirror that the visor hooks into? I'll see if it's in the truck. I know I found the sunvisors in the rear, but I'll have to look for the hooks.

I am planning on cutting out section "B", and then moving section "A" to line up with "C" to cover the cut lines. Then I will figure out the fuel tank issue so I can bobtail the bodywork. Can't bobtail the frame, since I will need it full size for the TomCat.

The first part of the "buggy" look is to set the front fenders up. Here's what I decide on for the front fender look. Before, and after shot.

I'm not cutting the drivers side one up for now, as it is perfect, and I'm hoping I can sell it to someone who needs it.

Step 2 was to begin cutting out the rear body, and removing the roof panel that I didn't need.
