Ok so I went home this weekend and knocked out a good amount of work on my classic. I had already swapped a 24 spline front axle under it, but I swapped the rear 24 spline axle in and welded the diff. I figured if I swapped the whole casing I could avoid changing the spindles and it would give me a chance to paint everything. then i moved on to plumbing the winch. I have a 10500lb mile marker hydraulic. I have an eaton power steering pump and resovoir off of an 81 RRC and I am using a plow valve to control it. I mounted the pump where the ac compressor used to be by making some additional supports. Then the winch bumper I had was great but it did not allow me easy access to the winch gearing. so I cut it apart and with the addition of some 1/4"thick 4x4 angle iron I made a new mount for the winch to sit on top of and anchor it to the frame. I have 3 half inch bolts holding the new bumper on, on each frame rail. I was wondering if you guys think I need to go with grade 8 bolts? the bolts that came with the winch to mount it to the plate are just 3/8" diameter and there are 4 of them. I have 6 1/2" diameter bolts anchoring the bumper which seems more than substantial enough.
oh yeah I made a rear diff guard too. if I had picture I would have posted them but I left my camera at school. let me know what you think with the bolt situation. thanks
