[All] AC compresser conversion
« on: February 17, 2009, 09:39:04 AM »
I once saw a range rover where a guy changed his ac compressor into a air compressor in his range rover, and had a air tank in the back. Has anybody done that conversion, and if so. How??

Matt has it if I'm not mistaken. I have no doubt he'll give an explanation :).

So did you run the air line through the car? And how did you wire it up?

nah just along the frame to a tank underneith. as for wiring the plug has a negative and positive terminal figure out witch is witch then ground out the negitive. you willneed a psi switch check ebay or where ever you think. i got mine from ebay for like 25 dollars shipped. what youwill do is run a posative wire to a switch in the cabin then run it to the psi switch so you can turn on and off the psi switch.

you really should run a blow off valve for safety sake and a check valve so you dont quickly wear out the compressor. Also the compressor needs to be lubricated as you will be loosing the lubrication when running an "open loop" system. This can be done by separating the oil that is added out of the charge line and feeding it back into the compressor or Sanden types can be modified to use hi temp grease.

Donny, what did you find (specs) for a pressure switch? I've never found anything that had the spec I was looking for (120psi on / 150psi off) for cheap.

this is a good resource for air parts. Some stuff is pricey but is all Slut tested and will go the distance.
