88 Range Rover. Built.
« on: March 08, 2009, 10:17:47 AM »
Selling this for a customer / friend who has moved on to faster things.

1988 Range Rover.
Extensively rebuilt 3-4 yrs ago. Only covered a few thousand miles since.

work done at that time

Brand new 4.0 long block (four bolt main bearings)
Chipped 14CUX ECU
QT motor mounts and transmission mounts (unbreakable)
New Radiator
all new hoses
rebuilt R-380 and rebuilt linkage
HD driveshafts
Detroit rear locker w/ GBR 4:75 gears
GBR HD axle shafts and flanges
ARB front locker w/ GBR 4:75 gears
Front axle compleately rebuilt with NEW swivels, swivel bearings, seals, wheel bearings and etc ($1200 alone)
Rovertracks HD Axles and CV's (I'll guarantee you wont break these)
GCR steel rims
12.50 x 35 SSR tires with barely any miles on them
5" Rovertym Springs
Custom 1" body lift
OME front shocks w/ dislocation
Bilstien rear shocks w/ dislocation
S.S. extended brake lines
Rovertym front HD castor corrected radius arms
Rovertym rear trailing arms and correction block.
Custom OE rear bumper
Military front bumper
Rovertime sliders (these need to be painted or re-coated....badly)
Warn 9500ti winch (not installed in pictures as it had only just returned from full factory rebuild at Warn)
Roof rack
Front driving lights on custom brackets
2 rear backup lights wired into switch or independant
1 rear (huge) hella work light on custom bracket
ARB compressor for locker
Powertank for air (well...Co2 actually)
Mantec snorkle
Very nicely re-upholstered front seats (leather)
Dog Guard
Killer stereo with subwoofer. (Thing is ridiculous and I want to swipe it for my rig!)

I built this truck for a client a few years back at considerable cost (just add the cost of those parts). It was built to drive to the trail in comfort and wheel with the best. Everything was done to the highest spec available without regard to cost. Owner has since taken up racing cars etc and doesn't use this anymore (you should see his new toys !).

As it has not been used much in the last few years it has started to suffer from the usual RRC corosion issues. It is currently inspectable but the sub frame is in pretty sad shape. Will require work in the future for sure. Also had some tree damage during the recent ice storm. Has been fitted with a bonnet that is in OK shape but needs to be painted. Driver side wing also damaged, have NIB to go with it.

The exhaust is pretty old and has been repaired several times. Although it functions currently I would suggest replacing it.

These are the only known issues. Everything else works and I have been driving it with no issues at all. Drives very nicely on the road sounds great with plenty of power (those used to tired old Rangie 3.9's will be suprised) and is extremely capable off road.

It is a nice rig. It's easily worth it just for all the parts. It's a little sad from just sitting around for a couple of years, but would make a great rig for someone that can do a little work on it, and understands what it was built for.

There are still things I forgot to list like the nice CB and antenna. It's kiiling me to sell thing and I don't even own it.

I added up all the parts invoices for this. I didn't get some of the little bits but the major stuff (including the $900 stereo) added up to $26,436.00. The truck built was over 50k.

It has been pointed out to me (correctly) that I've listed this as having an R-380....which would mean it had been converted to a 5 spd manual.....which it is not. It has an autobox.

I intended to say that it has a fresh LT230 and a rebuilt linkage. Apologies.

If I had a garage, that thing would be in it by now.  Looks like a lot of fun.

Any interior shots? How does it feel on the road? What are some examples of "little things" it needs? I'm thinking about how it could replace my classic.

Chris, I didn't take any inside shots. It has the cool older style interior in grey. The front seats are freshly upholstered. I'll take some tommorow if I get a minute.
It drives very well on the road.  No shakes or wobbles. Nice ride.
It will probably need some exhaust work, and welding on frame and subframe at some point. Lisa pointed out that the seat switch on the driver side doesn't work.....I guess it must be in the right spot for me!
It is a great wheeling truck. I'd waxoyl the shit out of it and run it. The reason I haven't yet waxoyled it is than to be fair I think anyone looking at it should see the "before" as "after" it will look fine. Waxoyl will cover a multitude of sins.
Did notice today that the AC works (after finding the receipt for the new compressor).
