12v to 18v
« on: March 10, 2009, 01:14:51 PM »
Hi all,
I just got a (free :) :) ) compressor for an OBA setup. It is an 18v and I was curious about wiring it up to the truck. Would I need a dual battery setup or just an inverter? It is not a "plug-in". It has to be hardwired to the truck to work.

Well, you'll certainly need more than 12v to have it work PROPERLY.  It'll probably run on 12v but the motor output will obviously be degraded.

An inverter has nothing to do with your problem.  Inverters convert DC power to AC power.  Unless your motor is 18vac, it won't work.  Even if it is 18vac, good luck finding a 12vdc to 18vac inverter!
