Heater Core Removal Problem
« on: March 27, 2009, 12:52:38 PM »
It may be that my 1989 Ranger Rover has a different A/C & heater set-up than what you've already mentioned here--but I'm about ready to get the hacksaw out and saw through the plastic that houses the A/C unit in order to get the heater core out. It seems the bottom passenger side of the dash surrounds the entire A/C unit, and runs all the way to where the switches are for such things as the window heater, defrost, etc... thus blocking the direction I'd use to pull out the heater unit. Everything is off--top dash, instrument cluster, console, I've even unbolted the unit. Am I missing something? I don't want to mess with the A/C on this, and right now it looks impossible unless I hacksaw the plastic section directly in front of the heater--then go back and bolt it together once I've replaced the unit.  Any ideas?

Tom's write up in the next thread topic down is very informative and helpful. Just don't let the truck get the better of you. Walk away from it and attack it the next day sometimes helps. Fresh outlook and a fresh set of eyes.
