2010 Range Rover
« on: April 08, 2009, 09:48:14 AM »
First off... The link: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/07/new-york-preview-2010-land-rover-range-rover-is-awash-in-new-po/

I saw it on engadget this morning. http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/08/2010-range-rover-gets-12-inch-dual-view-touchscreen/

Am I the only one that's thinking they're pushing the tech in this thing just a bit too far? I think the range rover has always been a perfect integration of new technology with a classy interface. For instance maintaining the analog clock.

But now they're using virtual gauges... It just seems to belong on a Lexus to me... I really love the technology, but they've been so good at hiding it in the past models. For some reason they've decided to do away with that.

Of course I'll never own one myself, so I'm not sure why I'm talking about it :)

The damn thing has been in the Lexus class since they sold them for 70k plus! I think the biggest surprise is the 5.0 engine, it so Cadillac Ecalade like:) I love it!
If you can afford that kind of price range, might as well have the biggest bad ass engine.

One thing I did notice with the GUI was they still seem to have kept the manual portion integrated with the new technology as far as the dials go.

I want one! It will be a demand in my next position quest :)

haha. Have you sat in both? Completely different class. A Lexus feels plastic and flashy. A Rangie is refined and subtle.

How so? There are no more actual dials. It's all a display.

Oh, Sorry,
If you look at this picture there is a lot more they could have made  "virtual" such as the controls for the A/C ...etc..I think they did a good job a keeping it looking like you have physical controls...other than the main display, which you know everyone wants, that buys a car that costs this much.

I like the look of this, it is a Range Rover it has to be flashy and full of stuff that you would never find in any other 4x4.  I am glad for the larger V8's too, and I agree bring us the TDV6's and TDV8's.

Have you seen the new LR4 (the LR3/Discovery 3 replacement) and RRS models, they look fantastic.

Now if they would just bring us the Defender back things would be much better.

LR4??? Do tell... Link?

If they replace the 3 with a 4; will the LR2 be replaced with a version 2.5?

Well current production on the defender as we know it is supposed to stop in 2010. They're not going to meet new legislation.

When/If they redesign it I would assume they'd have the US market in mind. Who knows if anyone will still want it though. It's kind've a shame since I think they've been selling them for a small profit lately. They did something with production to make them profitable. They hadn't been for awhile.
