You're not checking the timing at base idle are you? We set about 5-6 , but not at idle.

Followed the shop manual which says at 700rpm vacuum advance disconnected. You say otherwise?

I don't. But my superior does. He happened to be standing over my shoulder when I was reading this post and made the comment. I hang my head in shame because I haven't had to time anything but Vee-Dub motors for quite some time....
I'll get more detailed information on Monday.

base timing at base idle is basic theory. Everything else is advanced by definition, as in checking advance curve timing at advanced rpm.

Unfortunately the only superior I have looking over my shoulder is an 18yr old toothless cat, who by nature is pretty damn savvy, but I don'y think she knows isht about timing curves......so I have been left to my own devices which are seldom "correct".

ahhh yes . The Spanx. (total hyjack)

After messing around with a Subaru for the last few weeks (arrghhh friggin thing) we's thought about using a Soob drivetrain in the spanx. It is very much alike the Citroen in that it is a boxer motor. The 4WD is the key. Seems a little more (dune) buggy like. I still like the 455 Buick and 38's plan, but thats just the redneck coming out.
