Boston to Flagstaff in three days
« on: June 12, 2009, 11:09:54 AM »
Hey guys.

I'm going to a field school in archeology with the University of Vermont for the month of July, near Flagstaff Arizona.

Naturally, it would be cool to have my Rover out there so I could hit up some desert driving and maybe even Moab.

I have to get there by the night of July 5th... but I promised my special lady I'd pick her up from New York on the morning of the 1st.  So the earliest I could leave would be mid-day on the second.

Googlemaps says it's "1 Day, 15 Hours" and 2,500 miles.  Anyone think it's attempt-able in my D1?

How well do you take care of it? :) How long since you've done your last major repair? Another one may be just around the bend!

I don't think I would hesitate to take either of mine that far, but would need a full toolbox just in case.

I drove my (slow) Series III from NH to Flagstaff in ...4 1/2 days if I recall correctly.  I figure if you AVERAGE 50-55mph, it's about 15-16 hours of driving per day. Doable.  Not pleasant, but doable.

It is definitely less-painful as a 5 day trip.  Why not leave earlier and buy your special lady a ticket on Southwest from LaGuardia to Albequerque for $134?  You've gotta drive through ABQ anyway.

It's not a problem as long as you don't mind driving long distances. When I came up for Christmas; I made it from Vero to Derry in 19 1/2 hours. Never went over 75 anywhere. But I only stopped for gas, nothing else.
