Plant Bamboo trip pictures.
« on: June 29, 2009, 07:58:23 AM »
The local Land Rover dealer organized an off-road trip to Plant Bamboo yesterday. This is the site where the original "Mudfest" was done. Before it outgrew the site because there are so many rednecks down here. This place is full of hunting buggies, monster atv's on liftas, and the average tire size on the american rigs is 38-40. Anything american on smaller than a 35" stays home because they can't make it, lol.
The dealership brought out three (3) LR3's, including an 09'. One (1) Range Rover Mk. III HSE, and two (2) Range Rover Sport Supercharged's. All on stock street tires. We had four (4) DII's, two of them built, a 94' D90 built up good, a P38 on Mk. III 19 inch wheels, a DI, and about half a dozen LR3's, all stock.

Below is a couple of pics:
2002 LR DII SE Kalahari Edition. 4.6, locking CDL, and Detroits.
1994 LR RRC LWB. EAS conversion w/ +2" springs.
1968 LR SIIA 88" Hybrid, with 109" 1 ton axles SOA. Needs Tartis for completion.

1979 LR SIII 5 door 109 SW, 11 seater. Sold, 09'.
1997 Disco I Bobtailed buggy conversion. Sold, 11'.

A little bit of carnage ensued, and a couple of trucks went home. One DII ate his maf trying to follow the snorkeled DII's through a deep section, that one went back on my trailer to the dealership. Tonka drove home under his own power. lol! I got stuck twice trying to pull out the toyota, and I ended up falling off the trail between two bogs that was only as wide as my truck. Trying to winch him out, I damaged my winch tray - worse than I thought originally.

Much worse than I thought originally - LOL!!! The frame rail brackets both snapped, and when I nose dived through the next mudhole, I planted Tonka's nose into the opposite bank. Snapped off the front brushbar, bumper, winch basket, and winch. Took the saudi grille with it, and the headlight surrounds, plus the lower fairing to the radiator.
I was in locked low, so I just goosed it, and came out the other side. Ran over everything and it was stuck under the truck behind the front wheekls. Had to reverse out to get to everything. The main power cable for the winch cut on the frame rail, and caught a huge electrical fire in the engine bay. Luckily I've got the dual optima's and only lost one. Put out the fire, disconnected the winch battery, rehooked the starting battery, and Tonka finished out the day. Just had to stop recovering LR3's, and not play in the real deep stuff.

Good thing you found out that your winch mount was damaged by hitting it on the bank of a mudhole and NOT while winching--That could have been a disaster!

I'm curious about what the new dealer rigs attempted and what they were successful at...

For sale cheap at a Florida Land Rover Dealer:--(3) LR3's, including an 09'. One (1) Range Rover Mk. III HSE, and two (2) Range Rover Sport Supercharged's.  Slightly dogged-out but will still fetch groceries and bring the kids to soccer :).

LOL!!! I told the general manager NOT to detail them today, just park them out front in a row, right on US1. You know some people would be stopping in to look at that sight! I tried to have them give me a "trade-in" quote for Tonka at lunch, and he just laughed:

For Sale: One limited edition "Kalahari" DII, M/T's and lift, for looks only. Never off-roaded! 50,000 miles. 20K on new 4.6 motor. 7k on newly rebuilt trans and t-case. LOL!!!

LOL! My winch mount was fine. No bends, dents, or broken welds. The actual frame mounts on both sides broke. The LR techs that were out there couldn't figure out why my air bags never went off. Now I've got to replace both the frame mounts to the front outriggers before I can even mount my RTE front bumper. Damn Rovers are tanks, no doubt about it!
